An Unusual Vision in Nebraska
Carhenge, located in Alliance, Nebraska, was created in 1987 by Jim Reinders as a tribute to his father. Inspired by England’s Stonehenge, Reinders used 38 vintage cars to replicate the famous structure, arranging them in a circle measuring 96 feet in diameter.
Built from Recycled Cars
The cars, all painted gray, were placed to match the size and orientation of the stones at Stonehenge. Reinders and his family completed the project over a period of three days during a family reunion. Each car was carefully selected and positioned to replicate the layout of the ancient stones.
Expanding the Collection
Carhenge is now part of a larger art installation known as the “Car Art Reserve,” featuring other car-based sculptures created by local artists, making it a unique spot on the American landscape.
