A Lifesaving Mission
Chen Si, a resident of Nanjing, China, began an extraordinary mission in 2003. Every weekend, he patrols the Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge, a known spot for suicides. Disturbed by the rising number of people taking their own lives there, Chen decided to take matters into his own hands. Without any official training, he made it his personal mission to save as many lives as possible.
Interventions on the Bridge
Chen Si typically starts his day early, walking along the bridge and looking for individuals who seem distressed or contemplating jumping. Over the years, his keen observation skills have helped him identify those in need of intervention. When he spots someone at risk, he approaches them with compassion, offering a listening ear, and, if needed, a helping hand to pull them away from the edge.
Personal Sacrifices
Chen Si funds his mission entirely on his own, using his modest income from his job as a logistics manager. He has spent countless hours on the bridge, sacrificing his weekends and personal time to be there for others. His efforts have earned him the title of “The Guardian Angel of Nanjing.“ Since 2003, Chen Si has saved over 400 lives.
