A Resourceful Hunter in the Wilderness
In the 1950s and 60s, Francis Wharton lived near Little Fort, British Columbia. Far from civilization, Wharton found himself in need of dentures. A skilled hunter and inventor, he decided to create his own solution.
Dentures Made from Deer Teeth
Wharton shot a deer and used its teeth to craft a set of dentures for himself. He filed down the deer’s teeth, set them into a base of plastic wood, and secured them with household cement. Remarkably, he then used these dentures to eat the very deer they came from.
An Eccentric Figure in the Interior
Known as “The Backwoods Wizard,” Wharton was a well-known eccentric. His ingenuity extended beyond dentures; he designed his own guns after surviving a bear attack, later using these weapons to hunt bears.
