Standing amongst ordinary felines, Fenrir Antares Powers commands immediate attention. This striking F2 Savannah cat has officially secured his place in the Guinness World Records as the tallest living domestic cat on the planet. Towering over standard pets, Fenrir navigates a world built for much smaller creatures.
His immense size and striking spots prompt frequent double-takes from anyone who crosses his path. The recorded measurements and unique genetic background of this massive cat challenge standard expectations of domestic animal sizes.
Record-Breaking Physical Proportions
On January 29, 2021, a specialized veterinarian officially measured Fenrir. Guinness World Records verified the measurements, confirming that the cat stands an incredible 18.83 inches, or 47.83 centimeters, tall from paw to shoulder.
To put this in perspective, an average domestic cat measures about 9 to 10 inches, or 22.8 to 25.4 centimeters, in height. When Fenrir stretches out on his hind legs, he can comfortably rest his front paws on a standard kitchen counter. He weighs around 36 pounds, or 16.3 kilograms, requiring a specialized diet to maintain his large frame.
The Genetics of a Savannah Cat
Fenrir belongs to a unique breed known as the Savannah cat. This breed is produced by crossing a domestic feline with a medium-sized wild African cat called a serval. Fenrir is classified as an F2 Savannah. This specific designation means that his grandfather was a wild serval.
This genetic background directly accounts for his exceptionally long limbs, large ears, and spotted coat. Breeders note that early generations like F1 and F2 typically display the largest physical dimensions within this hybrid classification.
A Working Feline in Michigan
Fenrir lives with his owner, Dr. William John Powers, a practicing physician located in Farmington Hills, Michigan. Instead of staying home all day, Fenrir actively participates in his owner’s daily routine. He frequently accompanies Dr. Powers to the medical clinic.
Patients frequently express surprise when they see a feline the size of a medium dog walking through the waiting room. Dr. Powers utilizes Fenrir as a therapy animal to soothe anxious individuals before their appointments. The large cat regularly approaches people for attention, purring loudly while receiving pets.
A Family History of World Records
Extreme height runs in this specific feline family. Before Fenrir took the title, the world record for the tallest living domestic cat was held by his own sibling. His brother, Arcturus Aldebaran Powers, measured a staggering 19.05 inches, or 48.4 centimeters, tall.
Following a fatal house fire in 2017 that claimed Arcturus’s life, the record sat unclaimed until Fenrir grew to his adult size. Today, Dr. Powers uses Fenrir’s public platform to raise funds for local animal shelters and feline charities across the state of Michigan.
