A Life Altered by Accident
In 1971, Edwin E. Robinson, a truck driver from Falmouth, Maine, suffered a severe accident that left him blind and partially deaf. For nine years, he navigated life without sight and with limited hearing, relying heavily on his wife, Doris, for daily activities.
The Fateful Storm
On June 4, 1980, a thunderstorm rolled through Falmouth. Concerned for his pet chicken, Tuck-Tuck, Robinson ventured into his yard to bring the bird to safety. As he stood under a tree, a lightning bolt struck, knocking him unconscious. After regaining consciousness, he returned indoors and rested.
A Miraculous Awakening
Upon waking, Robinson noticed something extraordinary. He could see a plaque on the wall, a gift from his grandchildren, and read it aloud to his wife. Astonished, Doris tested his restored vision by asking him to read the time from a clock, which he did accurately. Additionally, his hearing had returned, eliminating the need for his hearing aids.
Medical Confirmation and Media Attention
Robinson’s ophthalmologist, Dr. Albert Moulton of Portland, confirmed the restoration of his vision, though he couldn’t explain the phenomenon. The story attracted national attention, leading to appearances on television programs like “Good Morning America.” Despite the media frenzy, the Robinsons resumed a quiet life, grateful for the unexpected turn of events.
