An English Village in Shanghai
Thames Town, located in the Songjiang District of Shanghai, is a replica of a traditional English village. Completed in 2006, it was part of a larger plan to create themed towns around Shanghai to manage urban expansion and attract residents to the suburbs.
Architectural Precision
The town features cobblestone streets, Tudor-style houses, a church resembling one in Bristol, and even iconic red phone booths. Every detail was designed to evoke an authentic English atmosphere, making it a popular backdrop for photography.
A Ghost Town with a Twist
Despite its picturesque setting, Thames Town remains sparsely populated. Initially built to attract permanent residents, most properties were purchased as investments and remain vacant. However, the town thrives as a destination for wedding photos and day trips.
