The Bulldozer Rampage: A Town Under Siege

A Conflict Boils Over

On June 4, 2004, in Granby, Colorado, Marvin Heemeyer used a modified bulldozer to go on a destructive rampage. Frustrated over disputes with town officials and local businesses, Heemeyer spent over a year equipping the machine with steel and concrete armor, making it nearly indestructible.

The Path of Destruction

Heemeyer targeted buildings linked to his grievances, including the town hall, a concrete plant, a newspaper office, and a hardware store. Over two hours, he caused more than $7 million in damages. The heavily fortified bulldozer, nicknamed “Killdozer,” was impervious to gunfire and even small explosives.

Law Enforcement Helpless

Police and SWAT teams scrambled to stop the rampage. Efforts to penetrate the armor or disable the vehicle’s engine failed. Residents evacuated as Heemeyer’s bulldozer methodically demolished structures, leaving chaos in its wake.

An Unstoppable Force Meets an End

The rampage ended when the bulldozer became trapped in a basement it had partially destroyed. Heemeyer took his own life before authorities could apprehend him. No other lives were lost, but the event left the small town of Granby shaken and its story etched in history.
