The Last Cave Village in China 🏘️

A Hidden Cave Village

Zhongdong Village, located in Guizhou Province, China, is one of the few remaining villages in the world where people still live inside a cave. Situated 1,800 meters above sea level, the cave has been home to generations of villagers, who have adapted to its natural shelter.

Daily Life Inside the Cave

The cave’s natural environment provides protection from harsh weather conditions. Inside, the villagers have built homes, a school, and even a basketball court. Though isolated from the modern world, the village is a fully functioning community where people carry out their daily lives.

Difficult Access

Reaching Zhongdong is a challenge—there are no roads to the village. Villagers and visitors must hike for several hours through mountainous terrain to arrive at this unique settlement. The lack of infrastructure makes it hard for modern services to reach the village.

Facing Change

In recent years, the Chinese government has encouraged villagers to move to more accessible areas. However, some villagers prefer to remain, cherishing their remote life in the cave.
