A Secret Briefing During a Global Crisis
During the height of the Cuban Missile Crisis, on October 25, 1962, U.S. presidential advisor Harald Malmgren was briefed by senior CIA and Atomic Energy Commission officials about a classified incident. While overseeing budget matters tied to missile testing, he was shown footage of a test involving a missile equipped with an X-ray-emitting warhead. In the video, a white orb was seen circling the missile in flight.
An Unexplained Crash and Recovery
According to Malmgren, the orb appeared to be disabled by the X-ray burst and fell from the sky. U.S. Navy ships in the Pacific, including the USS Safeguard, retrieved the object. Deck logs from October 26 report a “pod” recovered in nets, followed by sudden electrical loss aboard the ship. Other vessels documented collecting items such as a “black ball” and a “green tube” with elevated radiation levels.
JFK and Johnson Briefed
On December 7, 1962, President John F. Kennedy and Vice President Lyndon B. Johnson were briefed on the incident at three locations, including Los Alamos National Laboratory. The event was linked to a high-altitude test known as BlueGill Triple Prime.
A Glimpse Inside the Material
In 1963, Malmgren met Lawrence Preston Gise of the Atomic Energy Commission, who showed him debris from the recovered object. Malmgren later told his daughter, Dr. Pippa Malmgren, that while holding the material, he heard a voice in his head—a detail he never elaborated on.
