In 1922, Davide Cislaghi patented an improved version of the motoruota. His design, featuring a two-stroke engine, was showcased in 1923 at the Fiera Campionaria in Milan. Despite the innovative nature of the vehicle, commercial success was elusive.
The Rise of the Prototype
Cislaghi’s motoruota gained international attention, inspiring other inventors to create similar prototypes. However, issues with stability, maneuverability, and braking caused the idea to fade into obscurity after initial excitement.
A New Age for the Motoruota
In modern times, electric motoruotas have been developed, featuring gyroscopic controls that allow riders to move using body shifts. Though these vehicles are mainly used for entertainment and publicity, they mark the continued fascination with the one-wheeled concept.
