Time Capsule Gone Wrong: The Story of Miss Belvedere 🚗

A Car Buried in Celebration

In 1957, to celebrate Oklahoma’s 50th anniversary of statehood, a brand-new Plymouth Belvedere was sealed in a concrete vault in Tulsa as a time capsule. The car, nicknamed “Miss Belvedere,” was meant to showcase the modern design of the era and be a gift to future generations.

The Vault’s Watery Fate

The plan was to unearth Miss Belvedere in 2007, on the state’s centennial, with expectations of unveiling a pristine car. However, when the vault was opened, it was revealed that it had not been waterproof. Decades of water seepage had flooded the car, leaving it severely corroded and rusted.

Displayed for All

After its recovery, Miss Belvedere was displayed to the public, attracting attention despite its deteriorated condition.
