Adwaita, a giant Aldabra tortoise, captured the attention of the world due to his incredible lifespan. Born around 1750, he became famous for being the oldest known living animal. His story unfolded in the Alipore Zoological Gardens of Kolkata, India, where he spent much of his life.

After spending decades in the zoo, Adwaita passed away in 2006 at the estimated age of 255. His death was attributed to natural causes, with his health slowly declining due to old age.
