A Journey Turns Tragic
In mid-July, 27-year-old Bernardo Quiroz set off with his wife, children, and loyal dog, Talero, to visit his brother in southern Argentina. As they journeyed through Patagonia, their car broke down in an isolated area. In search of help, Mr. Quiroz and Talero left on foot, but a sudden snowstorm hit, and he became lost.
The Discovery
After 23 days, rescuers found Mr. Quiroz’s frozen body, with Talero still loyally by his side. The dog had stayed with him, enduring freezing temperatures and harsh conditions.
Fighting Off Predators
It appeared that Talero had tried to protect and keep his owner warm, lying near his feet, torso, and head. Talero also fought off local predators, such as foxes and birds, keeping his owner’s body intact. Days after Mr. Quiroz was found, his family was rescued from their broken-down car, all in good health.
