Shot in the Face and Lost an Eye
During World War I, Adrian de Wiart was shot in the face, losing his left eye and part of his ear. Despite this, he returned to combat and continued leading troops on the battlefield.
Shattered Hand and Self-Amputation
In 1915, he was shot in the hand, severely damaging his fingers. Doctors refused to amputate, so he tore off two fingers himself. His hand was later amputated, but he remained in active service.
Wounded Repeatedly in Combat
Throughout his military career, he was shot in the stomach, groin, leg, and ankle. Each time, he recovered and returned to battle. His injuries never kept him from fighting.
Surviving a Plane Crash and POW Camp
by the Italians. He attempted to escape multiple times, eventually being released in 1943.
Adrian de Wiart’s body endured countless wounds, yet he fought in three wars and lived until age 83, passing away in 1963.
