The quiet desert town of Dulce, New Mexico, has fewer than 3,000 residents and lacks a single traffic light. Yet, this unassuming community has become the epicenter of decades-long claims regarding a secret, seven-story military facility situated deep underground.
According to a long history of public reports from state troopers, physicists, and alleged government engineers, an underground base beneath the Archuleta Mesa houses extraterrestrials and top-secret government experiments. The timeline of these public allegations reveals a complex web of unproven but heavily documented events.
Cattle Mutilations and Strange Skies
The public reports began in the mid-1970s. New Mexico State Trooper Gabriel Valdez investigated unusual cattle mutilations in the region. Valdez publicly stated he observed sophisticated spacecraft flying over Dulce. On the ground, he documented finding a mutilated cow containing a deceased fetus described as a hybrid of a human, a monkey, and a frog.
Valdez also reported finding government-issue detritus near the carcasses, including gas masks, glow sticks, and radar chaff, leading him to state that government agencies, not wild predators, were involved in the mutilations.
Intercepted Signals from Deep Underground
In 1979, Albuquerque businessman and physicist Paul Bennewitz expanded the scope of the claims. Bennewitz announced he had intercepted electronic signals originating from deep beneath the ground in Dulce. He stated these signals were directed at targets too high for standard human aviation.
By 1982, Bennewitz publicly posited that a massive subterranean base existed, and in 1988, he published a paper titled “Project Beta” detailing methods for infiltrating the alleged facility. By May 1990, John Lear, a former pilot and son of the LearJet inventor, stated he had secured four independent confirmations that the structure was real.
Alleged Firefights and Government Operations
The reports reached a new peak in 1995 when Phil Schneider, claiming to be a former government explosives expert, gave a public presentation about the facility. Schneider stated he helped construct the base in 1979. He claimed that during construction, military personnel encountered alien entities, leading to a subterranean gun battle.
Schneider, who was missing several fingers, claimed to have lost them during this firefight, which he said resulted in the deaths of approximately 60 people. He alleged the government subsequently brokered a peace deal with the extraterrestrials. Schneider died by suicide the following year.
The Floor Plan of Nightmare Hall
Documents and diagrams circulated by proponents claim the base reaches two miles (3.2 kilometers) deep. Proponents state that different species of aliens, including Greys and Reptilians, have specific housing levels. The blueprints describe a sixth floor, known as “Nightmare Hall,” where unauthorized genetic and mind-control research allegedly occur.
While the classified military budget is estimated between $50 and $80 billion, hard evidence of the facility remains absent. However, local residents report UFO sightings have been a regular occurrence over Dulce since the 1960s.
