Unprecedented Album Lengths
In 2008, Denver-based experimental duo Bull of Heaven began releasing compositions of extraordinary durations. Their piece 118: The Chosen Priest and Apostle of Infinite Space spans over two months. They continued to push boundaries with 210: Like a Wall in Which an Insect Lives and Gnaws, lasting approximately 5.7 years.
Beyond Comprehensible Timeframes
In 2014, the band released 310: ΩΣPx0(2^18×5^18)pkkk*, a composition with a theoretical duration of 3.343 quindecillion years. These works are often accompanied by shorter, more accessible versions for practical listening purposes.
Innovative Distribution Methods
Due to the impracticality of traditional formats, Bull of Heaven utilized digital platforms to share their extensive catalog. Many of their lengthy pieces are available for streaming or download on their official website and the Internet Archive.
Continued Exploration
Following the passing of member Clayton Counts in 2016, Neil Keener continued the project, releasing new material that maintains the band’s experimental ethos. Recent albums include Fragments of the Night (2023) and Slightly Artificial (2024).
